Local Government Impact

The resolution would authorize a county commissioners court to declare
the office of constable dormant and transfer the records to the county
clerk. If a petition were to be filed to reinstate the office of
constable, the commissioners court would be required to call an election
to reinstate the office. Based on the average per registered voter
cost, in a sampling of cities and counties, the average per registered
voter cost is about $0.91. If an office is declared dormant and there
is no petition for an election, it is anticipated that there would be no
significant fiscal impact to units of local government.
