Local Government Impact

The bill would allow a district judge to deny bail to certain persons
charged with committing intoxication manslaughter after being convicted
of a prior felony involving the operation of a motor vehicle while
intoxicated. The bill would take effect upon voter approval following an
election on November 6, 2001.

The number of persons to which the criteria of the bill would apply and
the number of applicable persons to whom bail would be denied is
unknown; however, the county would incur the expense of jailing the
persons denied bail at a rate of $33.70 per person per day.
