LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session March 9, 2001 TO: Honorable Paul Sadler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HJR19 by Hilderbran (Proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to authorize the board of trustees of an independent school district to donate certain surplus district property of historical significance in order to preserve the property.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated, other than the * * cost of publication. * * * * The cost to the state for publication of the resolution is $80,000. * ************************************************************************** This constitutional amendment would allow school districts to donate real property and improvements formerly used as a school campus. A school district would be allowed to make the donation to a municipality, county, or nonprofit organization. Local Government Impact It is assumed that school districts that donate property would consider the costs of not having sold the property. Because the bill does not require the donation of property, any loss of potential revenue would be based on a decision made by the school district.
