LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session January 29, 2001 TO: Honorable Teel Bivins, Chair, Senate Committee on Education FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: SB176 by Zaffirini (Relating to a parent's ability to waive translation of the special education plan for the parent's child.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. To the extent that school districts currently produce written or audio-taped translations of individualized education plans (IEP's) for non-English-speaking parents of students, there would be some cost savings arising from parents waiving the right to translations. That cost savings could range from $5,000 to $15,000 per district. Source Agencies: 701 Texas Education Agency LBB Staff: JK, CT, PF, RN
