Peace officers employed by the state, including those employed by the Department of Public Safety, the Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and the Parks and Wildlife Department would also be entitled to this injury leave. The bill would take effect September 1, 2001. Methodology The bill would not have a significant impact on any state agency except TDCJ. At any given time, there are an average of 160 TDCJ employees out on workers' compensation. Approximately 128 of those employees would be eligible for the injury leave described by the bill. The average number of days a TDCJ employee remains on workers' compensation is 72.7 days. Based on the current number of applicable TDCJ employees drawing workers' compensation at an average annual salary of $26,724, it is estimated that the bill would cost $3,420,672 from salaries. and $967,366 from benefits annually. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
