LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 18, 2001 TO: Honorable Pat Haggerty, Chair, House Committee on Corrections FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: SB288 by Armbrister (relating to the financial transactions of a community supervision and corrections department.), Committee Report 2nd House, as amended ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact The bill would amend Section 76.004 of the Government Code to allow district judges to appoint a fiscal officer, other than the county auditor, to be responsible for the financial transactions of the community supervision and corrections department (CSCD). The CSCD would be required to pay all costs associated with employing a fiscal officer. According to the Texas Probation Association (TPA), 26 of the 122 CSCDs currently employ a financial officer other than the county auditor. TPA reports that the minimum cost for employing a financial officer would be $80,000 per year, which includes salary, benefits, travel, and equipment.
