Local Government Impact
The bill would amend Section 76.004 of the Government Code to allow
district judges to appoint a fiscal officer, other than the county
auditor, to be responsible for the financial transactions of the
community supervision and corrections department (CSCD). The CSCD would
be required to pay all costs associated with employing a fiscal officer.
According to the Texas Probation Association (TPA), 26 of the 122 CSCDs
currently employ a financial officer other than the county auditor. TPA
reports that the minimum cost for employing a financial officer would be
$80,000 per year, which includes salary, benefits, travel, and
equipment.
