LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session March 20, 2001 TO: Honorable Teel Bivins, Chair, Senate Committee on Education FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: SB621 by Barrientos (Relating to providing certain students with an equal opportunity to enroll in or receive a competitive scholarship for a graduate or professional degree program.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** This bill requires general academic teaching institutions and medical and dental units to use a variety of criteria in selecting students for admission and/or competitive scholarships for graduate programs of study. It would prohibit the use of performance on a standardized test as the sole criterion for consideration of an applicant. No changes are to made in the number of persons selected for the programs of study, or in the number of scholarships. Only the selection criteria are to be changed. Therefore, no significant fiscal impact to general revenue is anticipated. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
