"Buster" Brown, Chair, Senate Committee on Natural Resources FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: SB673 by Jackson (Relating to the authority of a municipality to lease or sell property used for the purpose of operating certain properties located on certain state-owned lands.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill proposes to grant authority to a municipality to sell or lease property on certain state-owned lands. The General Land Office would be allowed to grant to the purchaser, a lease of the state-owned tideland, water, and bed beneath the property for not more than 99 years. Specifically, Chapter 307 of the Local Government Code authorizes, among other provisions, the City of Galveston to use submerged state lands belonging to the Permanent School Fund for the construction of a pier. Local Government Impact The Texas Municipal League was contacted regarding local fiscal impact issues. No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
