LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session May 19, 2001 TO: Honorable Bill Ratliff, Lieutenant Governor, Senate FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: SB776 by Harris (relating to the accrual of interest on child support), As Passed 2nd House ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would reduce the interest rate on delinquent child support and child support arrearages which have been confirmed and reduced to money judgments, from 12 % to 6% per year. The provisions of the bill would apply to child support payments that become due or a money judgment for child support rendered on or after the effective date. The bill would be effective on January 1, 2002. The Office of the Attorney General has indicated that the reduced interest rate would have no fiscal impact on the agency.
