LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session May 10, 2001 TO: Honorable Toby Goodman, Chair, House Committee on Juvenile Justice & Family Issues FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: SB776 by Harris (relating to the collection of accrued interest on child support arrearages.), Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would reduce the interest rate on delinquent child support and child support arrearages which have been confirmed and reduced to money judgments, from 12 % to 6% per year. The bill would be effective January 1, 2002, and would apply only to a child support payment that becomes due on or after that date. The Office of the Attorney General has indicated that the reduced interest rate would have no fiscal impact on the agency.
