The bill would amend the Transportation Code by expanding the type and
range of vehicles that are exempt from load limitations and removing the
required weight limit per inch of tire width. The bill would extend the
purposes for which exempted trucks could legally operate in excess of
load restrictions. The bill would also establish axle and gross weight
restrictions.

Although the Texas Department of Transportation reported that significant
damage may occur to state roads with the implementation of the bill, no
significant costs were identified.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2001.
