LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 24, 2001 TO: Honorable Senfronia Thompson, Chair, House Committee on Judicial Affairs FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: SB1210 by West, Royce (Relating to certain attorneys and law clerks employed by a court.), As Engrossed ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill would prohibit certain conduct, permit certain employment negotiations, and make disclosure and recusal requirements of nonpermanent legal staff employed by a court who have accepted or anticipate an offer of employment from a law firm or other private entity. Further, the bill would require the supreme court to adopt rules as necessary to implement this section not later than 90 days after the bill's effective date. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house. Otherwise, the bill would be effective September 1, 2001.
