The bill would amend Section 573.021(b) of the Health and Safety Code.
This legislation clarifies that the 24-hour detention period (for
preliminary examination) allowed includes any time the patient spends
waiting in the facility for medical care before the patient receives the
preliminary examination. The period does not include any time during
which the person is actually receiving medical care in the facility.
