LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 77th Regular Session April 11, 2001 TO: Honorable Teel Bivins, Chair, Senate Committee on Education FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: SB1625 by Ellis, Rodney (Relating to Texas Education Agency guidelines for certain after-school and summer programs.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** The bill directs the Texas Education agency to adopt guidelines for after-school programs. Specifically, the guidelines are to address how to most effectively use both private and public funds in after-school and summer programs for students at risk of dropping out of school or students identified as likely not to be promoted to the next grade level. The agency is also directed to conduct research on after-school and summer programs. The adopted guidelines and recommended evaluation instruments and methods are to be posted on the agency's website. The Texas Education Agency estimates they would expend $500,000 to implement the provisions of the legislation.
