         Pursuant to a notice posted on June 4, 2002, the House Committee  
         on Appropriations, Subcommittee on the Teacher Shortage, met  
         jointly with the Public Education Committee in a public hearing  
         and was called to order by Representative Hochberg at 9:08 a.m. 
          
         Testimony was taken.  (See attached witness list.) 
          
         Present:  Representatives Hochberg; Eiland; Gallego; Giddings;  
                   Hamric; McReynolds; Pitts; Turner, Sylvester (8). 
                              
         Absent:   Representatives Coleman; Delisi; Gutierrez; Moreno,  
                   Paul; Mowery; Smith (6). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         Also present:  Representative George "Buddy" West

         (Representative Smith now present.) 
          
         At 10:50 a.m., on the motion of Rep. Hochberg and without  
         objection, the meeting was recessed subject to the call of the  
         chair. 
          
         The committee reconvened at 11:01 a.m. and was called to order  
         by Representative Hochberg.
