         Pursuant to an announcement from the house floor on May 18,  
         2001, the House Committee on Public Education met in a formal  
         hearing and was called to order by the acting chair,  
         Representative Dunnam at 6:45 p.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows:

                   Smith (5). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Sadler; Dutton; Grusendorf; Oliveira  
                   (4). 
          
         A quorum was present.

         The chair laid out SB 949.

         Representative Hardcastle moved that SB 949, without amendments,  
         be reported favorably to the full house with the recommendation  
         that it do pass and be printed. The motion prevailed by the  
         following record vote:

                             Hochberg; Olivo; Smith (6).  
           
         Nays:               None (0).  
           
         Present, Not Voting:     None  (0).

         At 6:50 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
