MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON BUSINESS & COMMERCE Thursday, March 1, 2001 12:00 p.m. or 30 Minutes upon adjournment Senate Chamber ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a joint public hearing of the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce and Senate Committee on Health and Human Services was held on Thursday, March 1, 2001, in the Senate Chamber at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: Senator Troy Fraser Senator Mike Jackson Senator Leticia Van de Putte ***** Senator Troy Fraser, the acting chairman, called the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce to order, and Senator Moncrief called the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services to order at 1:25 p.m. Senator Fraser and Senator Moncrief made opening statements and announced that the purpose of the joint hearing was to hear discussion and testimony on SB 11 by Senator Nelson. Senator Fraser laid out SB 11 and recognized Senator Nelson to explain the bill. Senator Van de Putte sent up a committee substitute and Senator Nelson explained the difference between the substitute and the bill as filed. Following a video presentation concerning issues relating to privacy of medical records, the Chairman called for testimony on SB 11. The witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. At the conclusion of testimony and response to members' questions, the Chairman advised that testimony would be left open on SB 11. At the author's request, SB 11 was left pending. There being no further business to come before the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce, at 6:17 p.m. Senator Van de Putte moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chairman. Without objection, it was so ordered.
