Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Business &
Commerce was held on Thursday, April 26, 2001, in the Capitol
Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chairman called the meeting to order at 8:03 a.m. There
being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:
The chairman laid out HB269 and recognized the Senate sponsor,
Senator Staples, to explain the bill. There were no witnesses
testifying or registering on the bill. The chairman moved that
the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so
ordered. The chairman moved that HB269 be left pending to await
a quorum; without objection, it was so ordered. Upon arrival of
a quorum, Senator Van de Putte moved that HB269 be reported back
to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be
printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 0
nay, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.
The chairman laid out HB1989 and recognized the Senate sponsor,
Senator Lindsay, to explain the bill. Witnesses testifying and
registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The
chairman moved that the public testimony be closed; without
objection, it was so ordered. The chairman moved that HB1989 be
left pending to await a quorum; without objection, it was so
ordered. Upon arrival of a quorum, Senator Van de Putte moved
that HB1989 be reported back to the Senate with the
recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion
carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not
voting, and 1 absent. Senator Fraser moved that the bill be
recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar;
without objection, it was so ordered.
The chairman laid out HB1162 and recognized the Senate sponsor,
Senator Jackson, to explain the bill. Witnesses testifying and
registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The
chairman moved that the public testimony be closed; without

left pending to await a quorum; without objection, it was so
ordered. Upon arrival of a quorum, Senator Jackson moved that
HB1162 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation

absent. Senator Jackson moved that the bill be recommended for

At 8:15 a.m. Senator Lucio assumed the chair, laid out HB551 and
recognized Senator Sibley, in the absence of the Senate sponsor,
to explain the bill. There were no witnesses testifying or
registering on the bill. The chairman moved that HB551 be left
pending to await a quorum; without objection, it was so ordered.

be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it

Senator Sibley resumed the chair at 8:35 and laid out SCR45 by
Senator Madla, pending in Committee. Senator Lucio moved that
SCR45 be reported favorably to the Senate with the
recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion
carried with a record vote of 6 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not
voting, and 1 absent. Senator Lucio moved that the bill be
recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar;
without objection, it was so ordered.
There being no further business, at 8:45 a.m. the chairman moved
that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the
chairman. Without objection, it was so ordered.
