Governor Committee Hearing Room, 2E.20 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Business & Commerce was held on Tuesday, February 20, 2001, in the Lt. Governor Committee Hearing Room, 2E.20, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. None Senator John Carona Senator Eliot Shapleigh ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: Business of the Senate Committee on Business & Commerce was transacted. At 9:55am, Business & Commerce Chairman Sibley passed the gavel to Subcommittee on Border Affairs Chairman Lucio. At 9:55 a.m., Senator Shapleigh assumed the chair. The chair laid out SB517 and recognized the author, Senator Lucio to explain the bill. Senator Shapleigh sent up a committee substitute; the chair recognized Senator Lucio to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the bill as filed. Senator Shapleigh moved that the committee substitute be adopted; without objection, it was so ordered. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Shapleigh moved that SB517 do not pass but that CSSB517 be reported back to the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce with the recommendation that it be reported favorably to the Senate. The motion carried with a record vote of 2 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. Senator Shapleigh passed the gavel to Business and Commerce Chairman Sibley; the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce resumed business.
