         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee  
         on Education was held on Tuesday, May 21, 2002, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.012, at Austin, Texas.

         The chair called the meeting to order at 9:07 a.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was  
         transacted:   
          
         Introductory remarks by Chairman Bivins.  The Committee rules were approved on a motion by Chairman  
         Bivins.   
          
         The Committee heard invited testimony on interim Charge #1.  Witness list attached. 
          
         There being no further business, at 12:40 p.m. Senator Bivins moved that the Committee stand recessed  
         subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
