         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate  
         Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on  
         Redistricting was held on Thursday, May 3, 2001, in the  
         Capitol Extension Auditorium at Austin, Texas.

         The chair called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.  A  
         quorum was not established.  The following business was  
         transacted:   
          
         At 6:02 p.m. Senator Armbrister assumed the chair and  
         laid out CSSB 499.   
          
         Public testimony was taken on CSSB 499 and committee  
         members questioned the witness.  The chair closed  
         public testimony on CSSB 499.   
          
         The chair recognized Senator Wentworth to send up two  
         committee amendments.  Senator Wentworth explained each  
         amendment.  Committee Amendment Number One changed  
         three districts in Bexar County: District 19, District  
         25, and District 26.  Committee Amendment Number Two  
         changed four districts in Harris, Galveston, Brazoria,  
         and Fort Bend Counties: District 6, District 11,  
         District 17, and District 18.   
          
         The chair left the amendments as pending committee  
         business, due to lack of a quorum.   
          
         Senator Wentworth resumed the chair at 6:26 p.m.   
          
         The chair explained a third amendment affecting Dallas  
         County was in the process of being revised and would be  
         sent up at the next meeting.   
          
         The chair announced the committee would meet on Friday,  
         May 4, 2001, at 30 minutes after adjournment at a  
         location to be announced by the chair the next day.   
          
         There being no further business, at 6:27 p.m., Senator  
         Wentworth announced that the Committee would stand in  
         recess until 30 minutes after adjournment on Friday,  
         May 4, 2001. Without objection, the committee recessed.
