MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON STATE AFFAIRS Tuesday, January 29, 2002 9:00 a.m. University of Texas at El Paso ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on State Affairs was held on Tuesday, January 29, 2002, in the University of Texas at El Paso ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Florence Shapiro Senator John Carona Senator Carlos Truan Senator Chris Harris Senator Kenneth Armbrister Senator Troy Fraser Senator Mario Gallegos, Jr. Senator Frank Madla Senator Eliot Shapleigh ***** The chair called the meeting to order at 9:20 a.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: The Chair welcomed the members of the committee, thanked the President of UTEP and made opening remarks. The Chair recognized Senator Shapleigh for opening remarks. Senator Shapleigh moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearing held on October 29, 2001; without objection, it was so ordered. The chair began discussion with invited testimony on committee charges one and three which relate to transportation planning and the commercial trucking industry. At 11:20 a.m. Senator Armbrister assumed the chair. The chair called invited testimony from witnesses relating to the above charges. At 12:10 p.m. Senator Truan assumed the chair. The chair opened public testimony on committee charges one and three. Witnesses registering on these charges are shown on the attached list. At 1:46 p.m. Senator Armbrister resumed the chair. Public testimony was closed, without objection, it was so ordered. At 3:00 p.m. Senator Shapleigh assumed the chair. At 3:04 p.m. Senator Armbrister resumed the chair. There being no further business, at 3:07 p.m. the chair moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
