Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule
11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Nominations
was held on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in the Capitol Extension,
Room E1.016, at Austin, Texas.

The Chair reconvened the meeting at 1:47 p.m. The following
business was transacted.
The Chair laid out the nominees to the Texas Board on Aging.
The Chair recognized Senator Brown to introduce Nelda P. Wray.
The Chair introduced Ben E. Dickerson.
The Chair recognized Senator Zaffirini to introduce Richard E.
Tankerson.
The Chair recognized Senator Madla to speak on behalf of Richard
E. Tankerson.
The Chair recognized Senator Wentworth to introduce Ronald
Brandon.
The Chair introduced Nancy Lee Lund.
The nominees made opening remarks and then responded to
questions by members of the committee.
The Chair announced that the consideration of these nominations
would be left pending awaiting the arrival of a quorum.
The Chair laid out the nominees to the Texas State Board of
Acupuncture Examiners.
The Chair recognized Senator Truan to introduce Marshall D.
Voris.
The Chair introduced Meng-Sheng Linda Lin and Pedro Garcia, Jr.
The nominees made opening remarks and then responded to
questions from the Chair.
The Chair announced that the consideration of these nominations
would be left pending awaiting the arrival of a quorum.
The Chair laid out the nominees to the Texas Department of
Housing and Community Affairs.
The Chair recognized Senator Ellis to introduce Shadrick Bogany.
The Chair recognized Senator Madla to introduce Vidal Gonzalez.
The nominees made opening remarks and then responded to
questions by members of the committee.
The Chair announced that the consideration of these nominations
would be left pending awaiting the arrival of a quorum.
The Chair laid out the nominees to the Texas Board of Human
Services.
The Chair recognized Senator Ellis to introduce Reverend Manson
B. Johnson.
The Chair introduced Teresa D. Wilkinson, John A. Cuellar, and
Jon M. Bradley.
The nominees made opening remarks and then responded to
questions by the Chair.
The Chair announced that the consideration of these nominations
would be left pending awaiting the arrival of a quorum.
The Chair laid out the nominees to the Texas Health Care
Information Council.
The Chair introduced Karl W. Swann, Lewis E. Foxall, Candus M.
Ater, and Verna Thomas-Melton.
The nominees made opening remarks and responded to questions by
the Chair.
The Chair announced that the consideration of these nominations
would be left pending awaiting the arrival of a quorum.
The Chair laid out the nominee to the Lower Colorado River
Authority and the nominee to the Central Colorado River
Authority.
The Chair introduced Robert W. Lambert and Ben J. Scott.
The nominees made opening remarks and responded to questions by
the Chair.
The Chair announced that the consideration of these nominations
would be left pending awaiting the arrival of a quorum.
The Chair announced that the committee would meet at her desk
upon adjournment of the Senate on Wednesday, March 28, 2001 in
order to vote on the nominees listed on the agenda.
At 4:13 p.m., Senator Lindsay moved that the committee stand in
recess.
At 3:42 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2001, the Chair called the
meeting to order. There being a quorum present the following
business was transacted.
Senator Van de Putte moved that the minutes from the previous
meeting be approved. There being no objections, the minutes
were adopted.
Senator Van de Putte moved to recommend to the full Senate that
the nominees to the Texas Board on Aging be confirmed.
Senator Lindsay seconded the motion.
The motion carried with a vote of 7 ayes and 0 nays. Senator
Haywood asked to be shown as voting aye. Without objection, the
motion carried.
Senator Van de Putte moved to waive the appearance of T.L.
Michell, Jacinto Juarez, Ruben Martinez, Alice Hemphill, and
John Hensley and recommend them for confirmation. Without
objection, the motion carried.
Senator Lindsay moved to recommend to the full Senate that the
nominees to the Texas Health Care Information Council be
confirmed.
Senator Wentworth seconded the motion.
The motion carried with a vote of 7 ayes and 0 nays. Senator
Haywood asked to be shown as voting aye. Without objection, the
motion carried.
Senator Lindsay moved to recommend to the full Senate that the
nominees to the Texas Board of Human Services be confirmed.
Senator Gallegos seconded the motion.
The motion carried with a vote of 7 ayes and 0 nays. Senator
Haywood asked to be shown as voting aye. Without objection, the
motion carried.
Senator Barrientos moved to recommend to the full Senate that
the nominee to the Lower Colorado River Authority be confirmed.
Senator Wentworth seconded the motion.
The motion carried with a vote of 7 ayes and 0 nays. Senator
Haywood asked to be shown as voting aye. Without objection, the
motion carried.
Senator Van de Putte move to recommend to the full Senate that
the nominees to the Central Colorado River Authority, Texas
State Board of Acupuncture Examiners, and the Texas Department
of Housing and Community Affairs be confirmed.
Senator Wentworth seconded the motion.
The motion carried with a vote of 7 ayes and 0 nays. Senator
Haywood asked to be shown as voting aye. Without objection, the
motion carried.
Senator Van de Putte moved to recommend that the nominees with
waived appearances listed on the attached agenda be confirmed to
their respective boards.
Senator Wentworth seconded the motion.
The motion carried with a vote of 7 ayes and 0 nays.
There being no further business, at 3:46 p.m., Senator Nelson
announced that the Committee would stand in recess subject to
the call of the Chair.
