H.C.R. No. 2  


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The congregation of Crestview Baptist Church of Midland is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the church's founding on August 3, 2003; and WHEREAS, The church was established on August 2, 1953, at a meeting held at Lamar Elementary School, when it was formally recognized as a member of the Permian Basin Baptist Association, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and the Southern Baptist Convention; following a successful revival meeting, a membership drive spanning the first month of operation resulted in 183 charter members, including the Reverend A. B. Lightfoot, who served as acting mission pastor; and WHEREAS, In its earliest days, Crestview Baptist Church met the needs of the Midland community through services and programs held in several locations, including members' homes, a Seventh Day Adventist church, and Lamar Elementary School; in its present location at 3300 Thomas Avenue since 1958, the church has undergone extensive remodeling and expansion through the years, and plans are currently under way for the purchase of land for the church's relocation to Loop 250 at Thomason Drive and Tradewinds Boulevard; and WHEREAS, Blessed with inspired leadership over the course of its rich history, Crestview Baptist Church today thrives under the expert direction of senior pastor Dr. John D. Gerlach, who answered the call to lead the church in September 2001; and WHEREAS, For half a century, Crestview Baptist Church members have demonstrated a steadfast commitment to their faith and to their community, and it is a pleasure to take this opportunity to recognize the congregation on this significant milestone; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Reverend Dr. John D. Gerlach and the members of Crestview Baptist Church of Midland on the occasion of the church's 50th anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for a memorable and meaningful observance; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
