H.C.R. No. 3  


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The exceptional efforts of Nancy McKinley to preserve the history of Midland and the Permian Basin have enriched countless lives within her community and throughout the Lone Star State; and WHEREAS, A West Texas native, Mrs. McKinley has been a member of the Midland County Historical Society since the early 1950s and currently serves as its president; she is also chair of the Midland County Historical Commission and a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas; and WHEREAS, This highly esteemed woman has worked wholeheartedly to protect and preserve the historical fabric of the area where she was born and raised; to that end, one of her premier achievements has been the restoration of the turn-of-the-century Z. Taylor Brown-Sarah Dorsey Medallion Home and preservation of the venerable mulberry tree that graces its lawn; and WHEREAS, Thanks to her perseverance and hard work, a number of noteworthy Midland structures have received Texas Historical Commission markers, including the First National Bank Building, the T. S. Hogan Petroleum Building, and the Yucca Theatre; her efforts have also helped to secure the Midland County Historical Museum, which she serves as curator; and WHEREAS, Nancy McKinley has taken a leading role in ensuring that the heritage of Midland is preserved for future generations, and through her unwavering commitment to that cause, she has won the deep appreciation and affection of her community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Nancy McKinley on her priceless contributions to historic preservation in the Lone Star State and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. McKinley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
