R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Linda Holt is retiring as director of Central
Emergency Medical Services (CEMS) in West Columbia on June 30,
2003, and this occasion presents an ideal opportunity to commend
her for her valuable contributions to her community; and
WHEREAS, A pioneer in advanced care for the Brazoria County
area and the guiding force behind CEMS since its first ambulance
responded to a call on July 7, 1979, Mrs. Holt has wholeheartedly
dedicated her time and energy to this vital, life-saving
organization for nearly a quarter-century; and
WHEREAS, Initially funded by private donations and staffed by
volunteers, CEMS has steadily grown under Mrs. Holt's able
leadership, and its resources today include four ambulances and
nine full-time and five part-time paramedic/emergency medical
technician staff members, as well as district funding; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Holt taught the first paramedic classes in
Brazoria County and CEMS was the first emergency service in the
county to employ paramedics, an initiative which has saved
countless lives over the years; and
WHEREAS, This highly regarded individual can look back on her
career with great pride, for she has set high standards of
excellence to which all members of her profession may aspire; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Linda Holt on
her retirement as director of Central Emergency Medical Services
and extend to her sincere best wishes as she begins an exciting new
chapter in her life; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Holt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
