R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Stephen Jackson of the 2003 NBA champion San Antonio Spurs is deservedly being inducted into the Legends Sports Gallery of the Museum of the Gulf Coast; and WHEREAS, The only native Texan on the Spurs roster, Mr. Jackson played an integral role in San Antonio's title run, and his performance in the fourth quarter of the deciding game six of the NBA Finals is indicative of his true value to the team; with San Antonio trailing by 10 points to the New Jersey Nets in the final stanza, he buried three three-point field goals to spark a 19-0 run that sealed the victory and the championship; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was associated with several NBA and international teams before his remarkable talents blossomed during his second year with the Spurs; the 43rd overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft, he attended training camps with the Chicago Bulls and Vancouver Grizzlies and also honed his hoops skills playing in Australia, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic before joining the New Jersey Nets in 2000; and WHEREAS, A member of the 1995 Port Arthur Lincoln High School state championship basketball team, he went on to attend Oak Hill Academy in Virginia and earned a place on both the McDonald's and Parade Magazine All-American teams; and WHEREAS, Stephen Jackson's success is a tribute not only to his exceptional athletic ability, but also to his dedication and perseverance, and his countless fans across this state look forward to watching their fellow Texan continue to add to his impressive record of achievement in the years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Stephen Jackson on his induction into the Legends Sports Gallery of the Museum of the Gulf Coast and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Jackson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
