R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Basketball phenomenon Kendrick Perkins of
Beaumont's Clifton J. Ozen High School was selected 27th overall in
the 2003 NBA Draft, fulfilling a lifelong dream and earning an
opportunity to play on the world's biggest stage; and
WHEREAS, One of four high school players chosen in the
draft's first round, Mr. Perkins will begin his professional
basketball career with the Boston Celtics; and
WHEREAS, A three-time All-State selection, Mr. Perkins
helped lead Ozen to four consecutive district championships and one
state championship during his four years at the school; over the
past three seasons, the team posted a remarkable 96-3 record,
dominating virtually all opponents; and
WHEREAS, Only the most talented and dedicated athletes earn
the right to play in the NBA, and Kendrick Perkins has demonstrated
the drive and determination, as well as the requisite physical
skills and abilities, necessary to succeed at the professional
level; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize Kendrick Perkins
on being selected in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft and
extend to him best wishes for a successful career in professional
basketball; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Perkins as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
