H.R. No. 30
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ricardo S. Sanchez, a native of Rio Grande City, has
been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general
with assignment as commanding general, V Corps, of the U.S. Army;
and
WHEREAS, In his new post, Major General Sanchez will oversee
all coalition forces in Iraq, including approximately half the
ground combat strength of the active-duty U.S. military; he
presently commands the First Armored Division, one of the army's
most experienced peacekeeping units, which recently took over
control of Baghdad from the Third Infantry Division; and
WHEREAS, This accomplished officer previously served as
deputy chief of staff, Operations, Headquarters, U.S. Army, Europe,
and before that as assistant division commander of Support with the
First Infantry Division; during the latter assignment he commanded
U.S. forces stationed in the American sector of Kosovo from
December 1999 to June 2000; in the 1991 Gulf War, he had charge of a
battalion attached to the 24th Mechanized Infantry Division; and
WHEREAS, Major General Sanchez earned a bachelor's degree
from Texas A&I University, and he received his commission as a
second lieutenant of armor in the Regular Army in 1973; he has
attended the Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War
College and holds a master's degree in operations research and
systems analysis engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School;
among the awards conferred on him have been the Legion of Merit, the
Bronze Star with "V" device and Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious
Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Joint Service
Commendation Medal; and
WHEREAS, Throughout a career distinguished by exemplary
leadership, seasoned judgment, and consummate professionalism,
Major General Sanchez has set the highest standards of excellence
in the performance of his duties and earned the respect and
appreciation of colleagues and countless friends; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Major General
Ricardo S. Sanchez for his exceptional record of service as an
officer in the United States Army and extend to him profound
gratitude for his deep devotion to duty and to this country; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Major General Sanchez as an expression of high regard
by the Texas House of Representatives.
