R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Science Academy of South Texas in Mercedes has been selected by Newsweek magazine as the eighth best school in the United States, and this prestigious honor is truly well deserved; and WHEREAS, Among the top 700 schools ranked by the magazine, the Science Academy is one of only a few with a predominantly minority population and is the only top 10 school with a majority of Hispanic students; and WHEREAS, The rating method used by Newsweek employed a formula dividing the number of college credit tests by the number of graduating seniors, and during the past year, 196 of the academy's young scholars signed up for 468 such examinations; and WHEREAS, All those associated with this exceptional institution are united in their commitment to ensuring the finest possible education for its students, and their efforts in this regard indeed merit special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the faculty, administration, staff, and students of the Science Academy of South Texas on the school's top 10 national ranking by Newsweek magazine and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Science Academy of South Texas as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
