R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of John Allen McCarty on June 15, 2003,
at the age of 88, has brought a great loss to the family and friends
of this esteemed Henly resident; and
WHEREAS, A member of the U.S. Army during World War II, he was
captured by enemy troops while stationed in the Philippines, but
bolstered by his faith and indomitable spirit, he survived the
Bataan Death March and subsequent captivity; attributing his
survival in part to the prayers of his mother, Mr. McCarty honored
her as well as the mothers whose sons never returned from the war by
giving them flowers each year on Mother's Day; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his meritorious service to his
nation, this courageous soldier was awarded two Purple Hearts and
two Bronze Stars, and he was also decorated by the Philippine
government; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McCarty was a man of many talents, having
achieved success in the recreation industry during his 18 years as a
Galveston County resident and as a rancher in Henly; and
WHEREAS, Those who were fortunate to share the friendship of
Mr. McCarty will long miss his presence, but his remarkable spirit
lives on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched during his
time on this earth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
John Allen McCarty and extend sincere sympathy to his family: to his
daughter, Chris; to his granddaughter, Emily McCarty; to his
sisters-in-law, June and Jerry McCarty; and to the other relatives
and many friends of this beloved man; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John
Allen McCarty.
