H.R. No. 38
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Wade Townsend of Dripping Springs has truly
distinguished himself as a pitcher on the 2003 NCAA Champion Rice
University Owls baseball team; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the course of regular and postseason
play, Mr. Townsend was a model of consistent excellence on the
pitching mound, as evidenced by his 2.20 ERA, and his contributions
played a vital role in attaining the school's first-ever national
title in a team sport; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his accomplishments, he was named
to several All-American teams, was a semifinalist for the 2003
Rotary Smith Award, and was an All-NCAA Houston Regional selection;
Mr. Townsend is also a scholastic standout and earned Academic
All-American status; and
WHEREAS, Before joining the Owls, Mr. Townsend honed his
formidable pitching prowess at Dripping Springs High School, where
he earned All-District 26-4A honors each of his three seasons and
was a Class 4A All-State selection as a senior; and
WHEREAS, By combining his considerable athletic gifts with a
determination to perform at the highest level, this exceptional
student-athlete has become one of collegiate baseball's most
accomplished players, and it is appropriate that he receive special
legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Wade Townsend
on his exceptional achievements in the sport of baseball and extend
to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Townsend as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
