H.R. No. 40 
R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, On July 4, 2003, Mattie Yalch of Quitman celebrated 
her 103rd birthday, and the occasion was a memorable event in the 
life of this beloved woman; and
	WHEREAS, Mrs. Yalch was born in 1900 in Amity, Arkansas, the 
daughter of Maggie Elizabeth Sorrells and William Jefferson 
Sorrells; one of 11 children, she moved with her family to Texas in 
1907, and they settled in Kaufman County, where she helped on the 
family farm by picking cotton; and
	WHEREAS, A dedicated homemaker, Mrs. Yalch married Michael 
Jack Yalch in 1930, and they enjoyed a rich and rewarding marriage 
until his passing in 1981; the couple were blessed with two 
cherished daughters, Peggy Long and Gwen Cooper, and Mrs. Yalch's 
extended family has since grown to include seven grandchildren, 11 
great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and
	WHEREAS, In celebration of her special day, Mrs. Yalch was 
honored by her relatives and friends during a birthday party and 
family reunion, and it is truly a pleasure to join them in wishing 
her well; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Mattie Yalch 
on the occasion of her 103rd birthday and extend to her sincere best 
wishes for much happiness; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mrs. Yalch as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
