R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The year 2003 marks the conclusion of a distinguished tenure as commander of Benito Alaniz VFW Post #7473 for Jacinto Serna Tamez, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on his many accomplishments; and WHEREAS, During the four years he served as commander, Mr. Tamez led post members in a number of important projects, including the initialization of a road-crossing volunteer program with Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District, the sponsorship of a city clean-up drive, and the creation of a ladies auxiliary group for the delta region; and WHEREAS, This outstanding gentleman was also instrumental in getting a street named for the post's namesake, Benito Alaniz, in obtaining four signs from the Texas Department of Transportation, and in the post assuming custodianship of a park from the City of Elsa; and WHEREAS, A proud member of the military during the Korean War, Mr. Tamez completed two years in the United States Army, during which time he was awarded two bronze stars, the United Nations SVA Medal, and the National Defense SVA Medal; and WHEREAS, In addition, he is a devoted family man who is supported in all that he does by his wife, Claudina V. Tamez, his three children, Jacinto Tamez, Jr., Yadria Illana Gonzalez, and Leticia Lazo, and his five cherished grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Pena has justly recognized Mr. Tamez by passing this honorary resolution in his behalf during the 78th legislative session; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Jacinto Serna Tamez on his tenure as the commander of VFW Post #7473 and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Tamez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
