R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For 50 years, James E. Abell of Jacksonville has been a practicing pharmacist, and this native Texan has distinguished himself among his fellow citizens through his dedication and commitment to excellence in this vital profession; and WHEREAS, Born in Vernon on December 21, 1931, Mr. Abell attended Vernon High School and worked for local pharmacies while in school; he pursued his higher education at Midwestern State University for a year before transferring to The University of Texas at Austin, graduating on June 8, 1953; that summer he was employed with Wood Drug in Itasca, and the following fall he served his country fighting in the Korean War; and WHEREAS, When his military service ended, Mr. Abell returned to Fort Worth and married the former Ann Figley on November 11, 1955, and their union has been blessed with three children and four grandchildren; he worked at Serval Drug until 1956, when he moved to Jacksonville and took a job with Wood Pharmacy; and WHEREAS, In 1968, Mr. Abell purchased Seay Pharmacy in Jacksonville, but lost the business to a fire in January 1980; after the fire, he was employed in Tyler for two years and then returned to Jacksonville and worked for Porter Pharmacy, where he continues to serve part-time; and WHEREAS, Five decades of service as a pharmacist is truly an admirable achievement, and Mr. Abell continues to inspire those who know him, demonstrating that one person can indeed make a positive difference in the lives of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor James E. Abell for his 50 years of service in the field of pharmacy and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Abell as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
