R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Cathi Johnson was named Luling Watermelon Thump Queen on June 21, 2003, at the 50th annual community celebration; and WHEREAS, Held from the last Thursday through Sunday in June, the Watermelon Thump attracts approximately 40,000 people to the colorful town of Luling, boosting the local economy and offering visitors the opportunity to sample the mouth-watering melon and participate in a host of fun-filled activities; a special coronation ceremony is held on Thursday to crown the new Watermelon Thump Queen and kick off the annual festivities; and WHEREAS, Miss Johnson is currently a senior at Luling High School, where she is a varsity cheerleader and participates in the Luling Future Farmers of America, the Fellowship of Christian Students, and the Key Club; this notable young woman plans to attend Texas A&M University and The University of Texas Law School, hoping to one day represent her community in the state legislature; and WHEREAS, Cathi Johnson has demonstrated commitment to excellence in all that she does, and she is truly a deserving recipient of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Cathi Johnson on being named the 2003 Luling Watermelon Thump Queen and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness and success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Miss Johnson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
