R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Celebration Park, a 104-acre recreation area situated in the city of Allen, was officially opened to the public on June 28, 2003, as part of the community's Allen USA Spectacular celebration; and WHEREAS, Developed in cooperation with local athletic organizations, Celebration Park features a large multisport court, two baseball diamonds, 15 soccer fields, and a soccer pavilion complete with restroom facilities and concession facilities; the area boasts a new hike and bike trail, and after a long game or workout, Allen athletes are now able to beat the summer heat by cooling off at the park's refreshing "spray-ground" area; and WHEREAS, For those less athletically inclined, Celebration Park offers horseshoe and washer courts and a relaxing "Great Lawn" commons area, as well as extensive picnic grounds that are shaded by sail-like structures reaching as high as 70 feet into the sky; the community of Allen is particularly proud of the park's impressive kidMania playground, a project built by community volunteers and city workers that has won widespread recognition for its innovative design, ambitious scope, and success in meeting the diverse needs of handicapped children; and WHEREAS, Celebration Park, which preserves three acres of wooded open space, has been further enhanced through the addition of a lovely ornamental lake with fountains; on the shore of the lake lies a beautiful pavilion that has been constructed to host outdoor performances and large-scale assemblies, thus ensuring that the park will be a popular community gathering place for many generations to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the opening of Celebration Park in Allen and commend all those whose hard work, generosity, and commitment made this project possible; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the citizens of Allen as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
