R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Bright Elementary School of the Frisco Independent School District has been selected to receive an award for its basic hygiene education program called "The Lunch Bunch" from the 2003 Awards for Excellence in Texas School Health; and WHEREAS, Established in 1989, the Awards for Excellence in Texas School Health program was created to commend Texas schools and districts for their creative and innovative efforts to improve the health of their students, staff, and parents; the program is sponsored by the Texas Health Foundation and administered by the Texas Department of Health School Health Program; and WHEREAS, One of only 10 schools in the state to be recognized in this regard, Bright Elementary School will receive $1,500 at the annual Awards for Excellence banquet on January 23, 2004, for its visionary health promotion project, which involves teaching students the fundamentals of personal hygiene in an effort to cut down on absenteeism due to dental and medical treatment; and WHEREAS, The issue of health is of tremendous significance to our state and nation, and by assisting young Texans in developing good health habits in their formative years, Bright Elementary School is helping its students build brighter and more promising futures for themselves; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the students, faculty, staff, and parents of Bright Elementary School on winning an award from the 2003 Awards for Excellence in Texas School Health program; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
