R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lopez Health Systems, Inc., provides vital health
care services to numerous people in Central Texas and the Rio Grande
Valley; and
WHEREAS, Since first opening its doors on November 17, 1990,
in Crystal City, Zavala County, Lopez Health Systems has expanded
its service area to include Dimmit, Frio, Hidalgo, Kinney, La
Salle, Maverick, Starr, Uvalde, Val Verde, Zapata, and Webb
counties; and
WHEREAS, A critical factor in the organization's success has
been its ability to respond creatively to the needs of its clients;
in 1998, for example, it opened Las Sendas Adult Day Activities
Health Center in Crystal City; today, in addition to primary
skilled care and adult day care, Lopez Health Systems offers
community-based alternatives and a home modification program; and
WHEREAS, The Lopez Health Systems staff has earned excellent
performance evaluations from the Texas Department of Human
Services, Texas Department of Health, USDA Food Service program,
and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; and
WHEREAS, The exceptional dedication of this staff has also
been evidenced by their many communications of concern regarding
the provision of health care to medically needy adults in their
region, services that are essential to House District 80 and a
priority for the Texas Legislature; and
WHEREAS, In addition to fulfilling its primary mission, Lopez
Health Systems has contributed substantially to its 12-county
region through its support of schools, religious and nonprofit
social service organizations, and scholarship funds; moreover, it
plays a significant role in the local economy through its
employment of 76 full-time staff and administrators and 1,200
part-time attendants; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 13 years, this respected organization
has provided outstanding health care to countless individuals while
working in many other ways to improve the quality of life for area
residents and strengthen local communities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor all those associated
with Lopez Health Systems, Inc., for their immeasurable
contributions to the well-being of their communities and extend to
them sincere best wishes for continued success in the years to come.
