R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Clay Roberts of Golden, Texas, recently
participated in the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games in
Dublin, Ireland, where he earned two silver medals and a
sixth-place finish for Team USA; and
WHEREAS, Part of the 56-person Texas delegation, Mr. Roberts
earned his silver medals in the dressage and working trial
competitions and his sixth-place ranking in English equitation;
prior to this, the 23-year-old athlete had won a gold medal and two
silver medals in equestrian competition at the Special Olympics
World Summer Games in North Carolina in 1999; and
WHEREAS, The international competition was held June 21-29,
2003, and included some 7,000 athletes from 160 countries and
territories; competing under the Special Olympics time-honored
athletic oath, "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in
the attempt.", Mr. Roberts demonstrated not only impressive
physical ability but also an unflagging commitment to sportsmanship
and integrity; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Roberts has proven that he possesses the ability
and resolve to meet difficult challenges, and it is a pleasure to
join his family, friends, and teammates in celebrating his most
recent accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Clay Roberts
on his achievements during the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer
Games and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Roberts as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
