H.R. No. 91
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The congregation of Holly Springs Baptist Church
recently celebrated a joyous event when it held a homecoming in
conjunction with its 100th anniversary observance; and
WHEREAS, Located in the Pittsburg area of Camp County in East
Texas, the church traces its roots to two early area churches, Bluff
Springs Baptist and Philadelphia Baptist, which merged in 1903 with
15 charter members, under the leadership of the Reverend B. H. Sims;
the first sanctuary, built before 1916 on land donated by Harriet
Coffman, was replaced in 1928 with the facility still in use today;
and
WHEREAS, For the first 40 years of its existence, Holly
Springs Baptist was known as a quarter time church, and it held
worship one weekend a month; in 1944, the schedule changed to twice
monthly services, and since 1948, the church has held services on
the first through fourth Sundays of the month, with no services
slated for the occasional fifth Sunday; and
WHEREAS, For 100 years, Holly Springs Baptist Church has
remained a haven of spiritual solace and support, and it is a
pleasure to join in celebrating its first century of faithful
service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the members of
Holly Springs Baptist Church on the memorable occasion of its
centennial and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
