R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, A 73rd wedding anniversary is truly cause for a 
celebration, and on July 9, 2003, Hack and Norma Lasater of Slaton 
marked this memorable event in their marriage; and
	WHEREAS, The couple met as teenagers, in Idalou, where Mr. 
Lasater's family farmed and his future bride visited relatives each 
summer from Cleburne; they maintained a long-distance courtship 
during the school year, and seven years after first meeting they 
finally exchanged their wedding vows, though their trip to the 
altar was not without challenges; they had to borrow $10 from a 
friend and ride to Lubbock from Idalou in the rumble seat of a Model 
A Ford coupe to find a clergyman to marry them after the minister 
they had been going to use had to travel to Austin; and
	WHEREAS, Their wedding at First Christian Church took place 
less than a year after the stock market crash of 1929; the newlyweds 
began their marriage with a $10 wedding debt and Mr. Lasater's 
$10-a-week job with the M Systems grocery chain that later became 
Furrs; he remained in the grocery business for more than 15 years, 
served his country as a member of the United States Army during 
World War II, and spent 21 years in partnership with his wife in a 
hardware and gift store before retiring in 1977; and
	WHEREAS, Since their nuptials, Mr. and Mrs. Lasater have 
enjoyed a warm and fulfilling relationship that has been richly 
blessed with a wide circle of loved ones, including many young 
people who have looked to the couple as second parents; for more 
than half a century, they have lived in the same home, been active 
congregants of the same church, and been involved with the Slaton 
Lions Club, and they remain valued members of their community; and
	WHEREAS, Throughout 73 years, Mr. and Mrs. Lasater have 
shared the trials and triumphs of life together, and it is indeed a 
pleasure to join in honoring them at this time; now, therefore, be 
it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Hack and Norma 
Lasater on the happy occasion of their 73rd wedding anniversary and 
extend to them heartfelt best wishes for continued happiness; and, 
be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Lasater as an expression of high regard by 
the Texas House of Representatives.
