R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Midway High School Panthers baseball team won the 2003 Class 4A State Championship with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Brenham High School, and it is indeed appropriate to pay tribute to all those who contributed to this noteworthy accomplishment; and WHEREAS, The Panthers enjoyed a truly magical season this year that included a 22-game winning streak, the successful defense of the Lake Highlands High School Baseball Tournament title, and several emotional wins over Class 5A teams; in addition, the team won the District 15-4A championship and romped through the area and regional playoffs before advancing to the state championship tournament; and WHEREAS, Head coach Tom Gladney stressed the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and baseball fundamentals throughout the long and challenging season, and he was ably supported in his efforts by assistant coach Robert Gough, freshman coach Joel Kuehl, junior varsity coach Michael Schornack, and trainer Matt Stone; and WHEREAS, The team greatly benefited from the support of the school's students, faculty, and staff, as well as from the dedication of superintendent Dr. Randy Albers, principal Sharron Zachry, and athletic director Angie Wishert; and WHEREAS, Team members include Thomas Field, Cal Sage, Clay King, Ryan Lormand, Neil Christian, David Klumpp, Zac Oliver, Brady Conine, Brian Beard, Blake Tully, Dustin Dickerson, Kevin Milligan, Matt Czimskey, Greg Johnson, Stephen Besa, Cameron Cooper, Alberto Lopez, Matt Lacy, Kevin Hatcher, and Brandon Riley; and WHEREAS, These remarkable student-athletes demonstrated a commitment to excellence both on and off the field, and the thrilling memory of winning the state championship will surely remain with them for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the Midway High School Panthers baseball team for winning the 2003 Class 4A State Championship and commend the many individuals who shared in this achievement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
