H.R. No. 125


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Holiday Trail of Lights is a notable event truly worthy of special recognition; and WHEREAS, Spanning the Texas/Louisiana border, the Holiday Trail of Lights features light displays, fireworks, live entertainment, Christmas musicals, and parades in Kilgore, Marshall, and Jefferson, Texas, as well as Shreveport-Bossier City and Natchitoches, Louisiana; these cities are all located within an hour drive of one another and their residents have worked together to provide trail-travelers a unique and memorable holiday spectacle; and WHEREAS, In Kilgore, the theme is "Christmas in the Oil Patch" and visitors can marvel at the more than 50 lighted oil derricks, each topped with a brightly colored star, that highlight the city's skyline; other activities include the Kilgore College Feast of Carols, stories read by Santa Claus at the library, and an arts and crafts show in the city's historic downtown; and WHEREAS, Initiatives such as the Holiday Trail of Lights contribute greatly to making Texas an ideal tourist destination, and the men and women who have dedicated their time and energy to bring this special program to fruition are to be commended; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the City of Kilgore and all those associated with the Holiday Trail of Lights and extend to them sincere best wishes for an especially magnificent 2003 Christmas holiday season; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the City of Kilgore as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
