R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Edinburg Children's Advocacy Center (CAC), also
known as Estrella's House, has sought to create a safe haven for
victims of child abuse since its founding in April 2001; and
WHEREAS, Part of a statewide network of advocacy centers
devoted to addressing the problem of child abuse through
prevention, intervention, and treatment, Estrella's House provides
much-needed services to the youngest and most vulnerable of Texans;
and
WHEREAS, The center is named for two-year-old Estrella Rojas,
who tragically lost her life in July 2000 at the hands of her
mother's boyfriend and whose memory continues to inspire
individuals throughout the area; and
WHEREAS, All children who come to Estrella's House are given
a teddy bear, a nurse's services, and a secure and nonthreatening
environment in which to tell their story; in addition, the staff
coordinates its efforts with local law enforcement agencies to
facilitate the investigation of child abuse cases; and
WHEREAS, The creation of Estrella's House is a profound
tribute to the memory of a wonderful young girl, and it is indeed a
privilege to honor the accomplishments of the Edinburg CAC for its
critical efforts to rescue other children from abusive situations;
and
WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Pena has justly recognized the
staff of Estrella's House by passing this resolution in their
behalf during the 78th legislative session; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend all those
associated with Estrella's House on their commitment to providing a
better, safer future for Texas children and extend to them sincere
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Estrella's House as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
