H.R. No. 137
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The retirement of Janice Sharpless from the Big
Sandy Independent School District brings to a close the impressive
career of an esteemed educator; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Sharpless attended Big Sandy Schools while
growing up, graduating from Faulk Hawkins High School before
earning her degree from Jarvis Christian College; demonstrating an
abiding commitment to her students, Ms. Sharpless encouraged them
to give back to their community, and, judging by the many hours of
community service her students have performed, she taught them
well; and
WHEREAS, Exemplifying the finest qualities of her noble
profession, Ms. Sharpless has spent 35 years in education, both as a
staff worker and teacher in Michigan, at Jarvis College, and in Big
Sandy, teaching grades 6 through 12; in addition, she has sponsored
the Junior High National Honor Society since its inception in Big
Sandy; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Ms. Sharpless has
distinguished herself as an educator of immense ability and
commitment, and it is indeed appropriate to pay tribute to her for
her devoted service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Janice Sharpless on
the occasion of her retirement and extend to her best wishes for
continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Sharpless as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
