R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Lone Star State is home to many outstanding
entertainers, and music sensation Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88's
can justly be found on that list of notable Texans; and
WHEREAS, Formed in Austin in 1974, this beloved rock-and-roll
band combines the talents of native Texans Johnny Dee, "Turnpike"
Mike Mikeska, "T-Bone" Keltone, "Lil-Dickie" Lee Dickens, Jimmy
Nitro, and Will Diamond Ramsey; and
WHEREAS, Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88's have generously
volunteered their time and talents in behalf of numerous
fund-raisers benefiting civic and charitable organizations,
including the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the United Way, and
the American Heart Association; a favorite at Lone Star political
celebrations, the group has performed for Texas governors Bill
Clements, Ann Richards, George W. Bush, and Rick Perry; band
members have also earned wide acclaim for their award-winning audio
and video public service announcements in support of the nationally
known "Don't Mess With Texas" campaign; and
WHEREAS, For nearly 30 years, Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88's
have delighted countless crowds with their unique style of
rollicking 1950s rock, and they have established themselves as
worthy torchbearers of the rich Texas traditions that have shaped
the state's musical heritage; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Johnny Dee and the
Rocket 88's on their musical achievements and extend to them
warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
