R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Lee County native Daniel Leonard "Dan" Durow on June 18, 2003, has deeply saddened not only his family but also his wide circle of friends and acquaintances; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born on November 7, 1926, and graduated from Giddings High School; after serving his country with distinction as a member of the United States Army during World War II, he enrolled at Blinn College to prepare for a career in banking; and WHEREAS, Mr. Durow married the former Bernice Moerbe on June 8, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings; the couple enjoyed a happy and fulfilling marriage until her passing, and one of their greatest joys was spending time with their grandson; and WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, Mr. and Mrs. Durow both worked at Citizens State Bank, during which time Mr. Durow served as president for 17 years and was a member of the board of directors; he also served on the boards of the Texas Bankers Association District 3 and the South Central Texas Bankers Association; and WHEREAS, This respected business and civic leader had been president of his city's chamber of commerce, was recognized as a 50-year member of American Legion York Post 276, and served his fellow congregants of Immanuel Lutheran Church in many roles; he held a lifetime membership with the Lee County Sheriff's Posse, was a longtime member of the Giddings Volunteer Fire Department, and contributed his time and energy to the Capitol Area Boy Scouts, the Giddings Industrial Foundation, and the Giddings Noon Lions Club; and WHEREAS, He was an enthusiastic fan of football, basketball, and baseball, and particularly took pleasure in hunting and fishing; and WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to enjoy the friendship of Dan Durow will long remember his caring spirit and his commitment to his family, profession, and community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the memory of Daniel Leonard "Dan" Durow and extend deep sympathy to the members of his family: to his daughters and son-in-law, Donna Boykin and Connie and Carl Stephen Rost; to his grandson, Carson Rost; to his siblings and their spouses, W. T. "Duke" and Ruth Durow, Alfred and Frances Durow, Ruth Wilkenfeld, and Gertrude and Rudolph Schmidt; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dan Durow.
