R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The congregation of Bellmead Calvary Baptist Church
is marking the 50th anniversary of its founding in August 2003; and
WHEREAS, Located near Waco in McLennan County, the church was
established in August 1953 with eight charter members under the
leadership of the Reverend Sullivan G. Wallis, who guided the
church during its first 22 years; and
WHEREAS, Congregants initially met in a large house at LaVega
and Bellmead Drive and then held services in a commercial building
before constructing an edifice at the corner of Latimer and Fisher;
as the membership has grown, the church's physical plant has
undergone repeated expansion; the current sanctuary was dedicated
in 1997, and further additions are planned; and
WHEREAS, Today, the dynamic congregation is led by its third
pastor, the Reverend James G. Adams, affectionately known as
"Brother Jimmy," who succeeded the Reverend Gene Wolfenbarger in
1977; inspired by this highly regarded clergyman, Bellmead Calvary
Baptist Church offers support, hope, and guidance through various
ministries and programs of benefit to the membership and the
greater community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Reverend
James G. Adams and the laity of Bellmead Calvary Baptist Church on
the joyous occasion of the 50th anniversary of the congregation's
founding and extend to all those associated with the church best
wishes for a memorable and fulfilling commemoration; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Bellmead Calvary Baptist Church as an expression of
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
