R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jack Dillard of the East Texas town of Waskom in Harrison County has been named the recipient of the 2003 Regnal Wallace Ag Communicator of the Year award by the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, Inc.; and WHEREAS, Presented at the federation's annual convention, held July 10-13 in New Orleans, the tribute recognizes Mr. Dillard's vast contributions as a writer and broadcaster covering agriculture for the Ark-La-Tex area; and WHEREAS, A former Texas county extension agent in Cooke and Gregg counties, Mr. Dillard has written about agriculture for The Shreveport Times for more than 40 years; he has also shared his expertise with many radio listeners over the course of his career, becoming farm director for KWKH in 1959 and for KRMD in 1978, and establishing Ag Communications in 1986 to provide farm programs for four stations in Carthage and Marshall; since 1968, he has also operated Double D Auction; and WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous accolades, Mr. Dillard has been awarded an honorary degree by the National FFA as well as honorary state farmer degrees by the FFA organizations of Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas; named Man of the Year in Texas by the Texas Agriculture Extension Service, he has been selected as Louisiana Farm Broadcaster of the Year seven times; and WHEREAS, The Oklahoma native and alumnus of Oklahoma State University served his country as a member of the United States Army, attaining the rank of first lieutenant; he enjoys a rich family life with his wife, four children, and eight grandchildren, and serves his fellow congregants of First Baptist Church as a deacon and Sunday school teacher; and WHEREAS, For more than four decades, through his informed and insightful journalism, Jack Dillard has rendered outstanding service to Ark-La-Tex citizens who seek to stay abreast of agriculture news and activities; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Jack Dillard on his receipt of the 2003 Regnal Wallace Ag Communicator of the Year award from the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, Inc., and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Dillard as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
